Gope Aluminum Surdo

Gope surdos are the best surdo available for playing samba reggae, samba afro,  and other rhythms from Bahia.  The shallower depth make them lighter and more comfortable to carry low with a waist strap. Also good for Rio-style playing and general bateria use.

14″ and 16″ are good for quieter playing or smaller surdo players (youth)
18″ is good for third (dobra)
20″ and 22″ can be used for second surdo (segundo)
22″ and 24″ can be used for first (primeiro/fundo)

A set of 18″-20″-22″ or 20″-22″-24″ is a common set of three surdos for samba reggae playing.

These models are sold with a napa head on top and a nylon head on the bottom. This is a typical sound for Bahian rhythms. These drums can be setup with two thin plastic heads. This is a good option for the 16-18″ drum when tuned higher as a third (dobra) surdo.
