Ivsom Aluminum Surdo

Available in 16″, 18″, 20″, 22″, and 24″ diameter; 50cm deep.

Ivsom surdos are the best surdo available for playing samba and other rhythms from Rio.  The depth is a good size for volume and projection when tuned appropriately for samba, and is comfortable to carry with a strap.  The construction is very solid, with a crimp around the top and bottom of the shell to hold the drum in round, and threaded rims that the tuning rods screw in to (less rattling and easier head changes).  The skin heads are high quality, and the 3/8″ tuning nuts tune easily with the included washers.

16″ is good for third surdo
18″ is good for third or second surdo
20″ and 22″ can be used for second and first surdo
24″ is best for first surdo

A set of 18″-20″-22″ is a common set of three surdos for Rio-style playing. 18″-22″-24″ would be great for louder and deeper sounds. 16″-18″-20″ or 16″-20″-22″ would be good for general use and higher tunings.

These models are sold with a skin head on top and a nylon head on the bottom.  This is a versatile setup for Rio-style playing.  Drums can also be setup with two skin heads (for $20) more or with two nylon heads (for $20 less).

16″, 18″, and 20″ surdos have 8 tuning rods.
22″ and 24″ surdos have 10 tuning rods.
