The Zabumba is used along with the triangle to play rhythms from the North East of Brazil, including baião, forró, xote, xaxado, quadrilha, and more.

This drum is played with a padded mallet on the top head and a “bacalhão” – a thin stick made from nylon or bamboo – on the bottom head.
